On 1 March 2013, a famous Latvian pianist Reinis Zarins will perform a solo concert in the Holywell Music Room (the city of Oxford’s chamber music hall). The Holywell Music Room is the oldest purpose-built concert hall in Europe. Sponsored by Baltic International Bank, the concert will be held to celebrate the 150th birthday of a distinguished Latvian composer Jazeps Vitols.

„We’re traditionally committed to bolstering economic relations between Latvia and the UK. We strongly believe that culture brings together countries much closer, and understanding cultural diversity is conducive to successful inter-country partnership. Latvia has a rich cultural heritage: we’re happy to offer a superb opportunity to British chamber music lovers to get acquainted with this gifted musician. By spreading Latvian culture across borders, we contribute to raising awareness about Latvia worldwide and foster better ties among nations,” says the Chairperson of the Board Ilona Gulchak.

Reinis Zarins has already attained a considerable international reputation as a pianist. He participated in international contests and got 11 awards. Reinis Zarins performed as a soloist with many orchestras in the world’s top concert halls. R. Zarins won Great Music Award, prestigious musical industry award in Latvia.

The Oxford Latvian Society, founded in 2012, will host the event. The main objective of the Society is to popularize Latvian culture and music.
