Possible Partnership with Latvia Discussed in Khanty-Mansiysk

News - September 14, 2012

A visit to Khanty-Mansiysk by a delegation from Latvia has allowed both sides to identify good opportunities for co-operation in areas such as economic issues, culture and tourism. Officials from Khanty-Mansiysk met with representatives of the local governments of Riga and Yurmala in signing bilateral protocols of intent in this regard, said delegation member Irena Skobeleva, who is the client services director for the Baltic International Bank.

“Businesspeople from Khanty-Mansiysk already take part in various international projects,” says Skobeleva.  “They are interested in many countries in Europe and the CIS.  For instance, they have already launched successful partnerships in the Czech Republic and Belarus.  Many people have demonstrated an interest, too, in a possible partnership with Latvia, and areas in which they are interested include finances, investments, real estate and, of course, the development of tourism.”

The Latvian delegation had a stand at an exhibition for companies and institutions in the Khanty-Mansiysk region.  The stand attracted constant attention, with visitors asking questions about Latvia, its economic situation, its business environment, and the opportunity to receive residency permits in Europe.

The Latvian delegation visited Khanty-Mansiysk in honour of the city’s 430th anniversary. The delegation included officials from the city councils of Riga and Yurmala, private businesspeople, as well as representatives of the Baltic International Bank.
