Sponsored by Baltic International Bank, AIDA triumphantly returns to the Latvian National Opera on 7 October. Verdi’s epic masterpiece, with its grand sets and costuming by a legendary Ilmars Blumbergs, is directed by Mara Kimele. The Latvian National Opera brought AIDA to its stage for the first time in 1998. Since then, the opera has gained classic status. This spectacular production with breathtaking setting and colourful costumes designed by Ilmars Blumbergs is one of the best-loved and most-performed operas staged by the LNO and provides an unforgettable aesthetic pleasure to the audience.
The LNO’s AIDA has been performed worldwide. With all its visual beauty, the opera captured the hearts of audiences everywhere. AIDA 2003 was a huge success in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. In August 2006, AIDA was performed at the prestigious Dalhalla Opera Festival in Sweden.
“The centuries-old story of AIDA has captivated audiences worldwide. Now, it’s our turn to evaluate the greatness of romantic myth. As present-day spectators, we share the magic of the performance and recognise and excel the noble inherited values that guide us throughout our lives, are passed down to future generations, and signify the eternal flow of life,” says Valeri Belokon, a founder and shareholder of Baltic International Bank, on the eve of the premier performance. „I firmly believe that the return of AIDA will be a genuinely exciting event for passionate opera lovers. Undoubtedly, the performance will be rewarded with a never-ending ovation to honour Karlis Zarins, express admiration to Ilmars Blumbergs, appreciate the deep artistic idea and creativity of Mara Kimele, and greet the talented young performers. I am delighted that Baltic International Bank has supported this magnificent event to foster the thrill and joy of the performance,” added the patron of the opera.
